A journey through Petiscos
Portuguese Tapas

Petiscos are a beloved part of Portuguese gastronomy, similar to Spanish tapas, and are a social way to eat and drink, with dishes often shared among friends. Petiscos are generally small versions of larger dishes allowing you to taste many more dishes. Portuguese even have a verb for this: petiscar, which refers to the Portuguese art of snacking, or having fun sharing in a delicious way!

Our food journey:

Right when you sit, and even before you ordered anything, this is the combination you find at every coffee or restaurant table in Portugal:
Lupins
Olives
Bread

Followed by the most common petiscos (tapas) in every friends gathering in Portugal:

Portuguese Chickpea salad
Fava (Broad bean) Salad
Black-eyed pea Salad

Then, enjoy the Portuguese most traditional and requested soup:
Caldo Verde (Green Broth)

And continue with the warm dishes from 3 regions in centre/south of Portugal:

Açorda de tomate (Tomato and Bread stew)
Pataniscas de Legumes (Vegetable fritters)
Pica pau

(literally means woodpecker, but it doesn't contain any bird meat -
It alludes to how Portuguese eat the dish, pecking the pieces with a toothpick)

After your savoury petiscos, you will be craving for sweets and Portuguese don't disappoint:

Christmas Portuguese Sweets

Bolo Rei (King Cake)
The must have - even Patisseries compete to see who makes the best one of the year
(and which has the bigger costumer lines at the door - seriously.)

Sonhos de Natal (Christmas Dreams)
a family traditional sweet, present at every table at Christmas

Coscorões (Portuguese fried dough)
an Arabian sweet that made his way to Portugal during the Middle Ages and never left the Christmas table ever since.

Pastel de Nata (Custard tart)
while not exactly a Christmas treat, this is the most internationally famous Portuguese sweet, full of bursting custard flavours.

You will also have the Finnish Christmas flavours:

Homemade Torttus
Pipparkakku
